In the light of the Prime Minister's address to the nation on 23 March, it was decided to call a halt to our Community voluntary work in the village for a period of at least three weeks. We take the view that the work we do is of benefit both to the community and to our health, but it is voluntary "work" and not recreational exercise. Moreover, it is not "essential" work and therefore is not within the narrow list of activities permitted.
We realise that our team will be disappointed but we believe that it is within both the letter and the spirit of the government's directions to slow the progress of this terrrible disease and we should set an example and follow the instructions now in place.
When it is legal and safe to return to our volunteering we will do so at the first opportunity. The situation will be reviewed regularly in line with government guidance.
We hope that you will all understand and we wish you and your families the very best safety and protection in these difficult times.
